Top 40 Songs of 2012: Likely Lads – Observations

#Top40Songs2012 by Sam Skilton
When it comes to describing the sound of up and coming bands there is always a risk of being overly comparative. In this case let’s just say that Ross McLeod harnesses the vocal strengths of both Liam Gallagher and Alex Turner combined, and they fit perfectly alongside Ash Harding’s Johnny Marr echoing guitar melodies. You get the idea of the range of influences on York four-piece, Likely Lads. Having already built up a strong following in the north, the band continued to grow throughout 2012, and the handing out copies of their free record ‘Melrose Yard Demos’ at gigs has seen them gain new fans across the country. ‘Observations’ is the pick of the bunch.
