Top 40 Songs of 2012: The Maccabees – Feel to Follow

#Top40Songs2012 by Sam Skilton
The Maccabees have always been a band on our radar, but even so, we were surprised in early 2012 to discover just how spectacular they are live. In March they played a sold out homecoming concert at the Brighton Dome, and the crowd’s reaction was something special. We’re talking mosh pits from start to finish here. Again, we saw them at Reading Festival, and the Brighton-based indie band proved that provoking such adulation was not something unique to their hometown. ‘Feel to Follow’ is at its finest when you’re standing in a dimly lit arena/tent, blinded by blinking strobe lights and surrounded by hundreds of indie kids bouncing up and down all around you. ‘Given to the Wild’ was an experimental album for The Maccabees, but it most certainly works.
